Acupuncture

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture, along with Herbal Medicine, Nutrition, Exercise and Massage, is one of the 5 Principles of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM). Acupuncture is the use of very fine small needles to stimulate the flow of Qi energy along the meridians of the body, rebalancing what is out of balance to help the body heal.

TCVM has been used effectively for over 3000 years to treat:

  • Skin disorders such as allergies, lick granulomas, slow-healing wounds
  • Musculoskeletal & neurologic disorders such as arthritis, hip dysplasia, disk disease, paralysis, nerve injuries, seizures
  • Urinary tract disorders such as incontinence, kidney disease
  • Gastrointestinal disorders such as diarrhea, vomiting, chronic constipation, appetite loss, chronic pancreatitis, mega colon
  • Respiratory disorders such as cough, asthma and sinusitis
  • Systemic disorders such as liver disease, cushings disease, addisons disease, diabetes, autoimmune disease
  • Behavior problems such as separation anxiety, thunderstorm phobia, inappropriate soiling/spraying
  • Enhance performance for agility dogs and show dogs
  • Quality of life improvement for geriatric pets and cancer patients

Modern research shows that there are bundles of arterioles, venules, lymphatics, and nerve endings at these acupuncture points so when the points are stimulated a cascade of biochemical processes are triggered which release anti-inflammatory and pain mediators and increase blood flow. This effectively relieves discomfort and speeds up healing. Animals tolerate acupuncture well and realize that it offers immediate pain relief and is very relaxing. If the use of needles is not possible, we have a laser that stimulates acupuncture points and just as effectively provides relief. The beauty of acupuncture is that you don’t need an exact diagnosis to see improvement and acupuncture cannot make any condition worse.

You really have nothing to lose trying acupuncture!

Kitties enjoy acupuncture as well!! Note the needle in the top of Brooklyn's head.
Laser acupuncture
If your pet will not tolerate needles we can do acupuncture with a hand held laser with the same results.
